Gard Jameson
Gard Jameson received his PhD from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2005 and his BA from Stanford University in Religious Studies in 1975. He spent 25 years professionally as a CPA, CFP, and Financial Planner. He was Director of Financial Planning for Piercy, Bowler, Taylor & Kern, CPAs. He is a professor of Asian Philosophy at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is the author of five books, The Beatitudes, (a reflection on the key attitudes to a meaningful life), The Peace Pilgrim Pictures, (a reflection through the art of Nicolas Roerich upon the spiritual journey), and Phaethon, Monkey, and Ramayana: Our Mythic Moment, the last three books reflecting upon three grand epics from the West, China and India and the lessons that they have to teach about our relationship to each other, to the earth, and to something larger than ourselves. He has also written a screenplay called: Voltaire & Emilie, the amazing lives and love of Voltaire and the great Emilie du Chatelet, hailed by Einstein as one of the great physicists. During the pandemic he wrote a children’s book, Love is the Magic Key, about the exploration of a father and daughter into the meaning of love.
He and his wife, Florence, cofounded Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada, VMSN.org, along with community benefactors, a charitable clinic that has provided free medical, dental, and mental healthcare to those without access for over 15 years. He serves on the board of the Charter for Compassion, CharterForCompassion.org, with over 400 global communities adopting Compassion as their premier value, including Compassionate Las Vegas, with the blessing of the City Mayors and Council, CompassionateLV.org. He helped to found the Children’s Advocacy Alliance in 1998, Caanv.org, (to advocate for the safety, education, and health of children of Nevada,) the Interfaith Council of Southern Nevada, InterfaithSN.org, (to promote interfaith understanding and appreciation leading to peace), The Nevada Community Foundation, NevadaCF.org, (which is intended to be forum for discussing community issues and bringing resources to those issues, and other concerns), and The Raymond M. Alf Museum of Life, AlfMuseum.org. (a museum dedicated to telling the story of life on earth, and our responsibility as human beings to promoting all life). One of his current projects is Restorative Nevada, bringing Restorative Justice to the Criminal Justice system in Nevada, RestorativeNevada.org. (imagining a criminal justice system in which the restoration of human dignity is given equal weight to holding persons accountable for the harm that they have created).
He has two precious daughter, MJ and Julia… and has been married to his best friend, Dr. Florence Jameson, for 43 years… they met when he was 15 and she 14 years old! And, that is another story!
