Dr. Lutforahman Saeed

Dr. Lutforahman Saeed was member of Islamic Law (Sharia) faculty at Kabul University (KU).  He earned his BA in Islamic studies from (KU) in 1991, and LLM from the University of Washington School of Law in 2010. He completed his PhD. Summa Cum Laude in the field of Islamic Law and Human Rights from Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen-Nurnberg-Germany in December 2019. His PhD thesis received the STAEDTLER Foundation's Award for Outstanding Dissertation in 2020. He specializes in Islamic Law and Islamic Studies.

He has some publications in local and international journals including his book, Islam, Custom, and Human Rights in Afghanistan, published in January 2022. He has served as editor in chief for the Journal of Afghan Legal Studies since July 2017. He was member of commentary board on New Penal Code of Afghanistan in 2018-2019.

Prof. Saeed has taught as Sharia Faculty of Kabul University for more than 27 years. He served as a member and vice president of the Independent Commission for Overseeing the Implementation of the Constitution (ICOIC) for four years. He is a co-founder of Afghanistan Legal Research and Development Organization (ALRDO) since 2019. He has served as the Country Director of Legal Educators Support Program-Afghanistan (LESPA) for more than 9 years. Furthermore, he was elected chairman for Afghanistan Constitutional Studies Institute from March 2017. Currently, he is a visiting scholar and teaching Islamic Law at Brigham Young University (BYU) Law School in Provo Utah.
